The Indian Kashmir valley, the world's most militarized zone with 700,000 Indian troops has been witnessing massive protests similar to the Palestinian first intifada with youth throwing stones, countered by the Indian police force the past 3 months. 90 people have died during this time.
Yasmin Qureshi is a Bay Area human rights activist involved in social justice movements in South Asia and Palestine. Her essay "Democracy Under the Barrel of a Gun", based on her visit to Kashmir, was published by CounterPunch and ZCommunications in June, 2010.
Join us for a presentation on the history of the conflict, human rights violations and the current situation.
